Rey whirls around when Kitty cries out her warning, the lightsaber activated and pulsing in her hands. If you captured a picture of her in that moment, she would totally look like a badass jedi queen.

But only for a moment. The second she sees the monsters barreling towards them, Rey tosses the lightsaber aside and follows Han towards the guns.

Look, you don't bring a close-range weapon to a fight with with a predator twice your size wielding claws that big. She'll take a blaster for this situation, please and thank you.

Chewbacca hadn't been far from Han and the force kids' saber time, intermittently taking shots against a rock and working on calibrations and adjustments to his bowcaster, when the call about the attack went out.

Well. The current settings will have to do.

As Han turns to head for the guns and Rey follows, Chewbacca rushes first toward and then past them, his already-drawn bowcaster aimed readily at the beasts that are heading their way. With a heartily warbling growl, he'll just go right on ahead and open fire. However big and sharp and pointy and feral they may be, Chewbacca is a freaking Wookiee, and Wookiees are not renowned for their tendency to back down from fights.

His willingness to go into battle is one of Chewbacca's many excellent qualities, which also include being a good voice of reason, keeping track of who they've recently screwed over, and being a much better cook than Han. The first blast from the bowcaster takes Han by surprise enough to jump, but doesn't distract him from his goal.

When he notices Rey chasing after-- and where did the lightsaber go?!-- he grabs a second blaster, holding it out to hand off or toss, depending how close she is when he gets turned back around.

Chewie is so her hero right now. Kitty too. She has no doubt those creatures would be on them already if the others (yes, okay, Kylo Ren too) weren't providing cover.

She catches the blaster Han tosses her way and immediately turns around to fire at the beasts.

Even as he fires, Chewbacca responds to each roar on the tigers' part with one of his own - standard wookiee battle cries, you know how it goes with the warrior races. That's how you handle aggression displays, okay? You just do better ones yourself. If you're a wookiee, anyway.

Of course, now that Han and Rey both have blasters in hand, that opens Chewie up to intercept one tiger as it gets in too close. It's better if he handle them at close range than one of the humans, after all.

One-on-one, Han doesn't particularly like his chances with the big cats, not if they get up close. He's not so well-armed when unarmed as a Wookiee. Rey's staff wouldn't do much, though if she hadn't ditched the lightsaber she'd be better off.

He turns his attention to helping finish off the one Chewie's shooting. Between the bowcaster and his own heavy gun, it doesn't withstand more than a few shots before crumbling with a wail.

One on one, yeah, Rey might be better off with the lightsaber than without — but Rey has no intention of being one-on-one with these things. She's happy to keep back, letting the seasoned fighters fight on the frontline while she offers supporting fire.
