Is this a thing here? If you mess up a lower appendage you think you're supposed to walk on it as much as possible? [There was a lot of scolding Ben for that already.]

[Not the person she was looking for at this moment, but perhaps even better! She has some questions for Kitty that have nothing to do with the force at all.]

I'd re-set the grav controls so that I could float through the halls, but that would cause more problems than it solves. [She smiles — see! There is a sense of humor buried beneath the prickles, irritation, and sadness!]

[There should be more smiles around this place. How can she even scold if Rey is going to have one?] I don't know, it could be worth it. Sounds sort of fun. I always wondered what that was like as a kid. [She leaves out the part where she got to try it at space camp since that would require more explaining probably.]

Let's put it this way — I wouldn't try it on a full stomach.

[And that's enough of that.] Listen, Han's going to be sending you out to get supplies, right? Whenever we end up stopping to refuel. Could you pick up a few things for me? I'd find a way to pay you back. [If she can ever figure out how to earn money, ugh. Thanks for not helping her at all with that, Han.]

Fair enough. And I do like food.

[The next part surprises her a little though probably not as much as the smile did.] Sure, but you want to get out too, don't you? [Han had told her as much.]

Evidently that is Not An Option. [Does she sound bitter? She might be just a little bitter. She's trying not to show it.]

Han didn't make it sound impossible. [Just a bad idea, but one that probably had to be played out anyway. Or maybe that's just how Kitty read things or the difference in how they read them. Wishful versus fearful.]

I'm more worried about our ship tipping people off than us. We can always use different names and wear masks. They were pretty common around the places I visited.

I told him I could cut my hair and wear a disguise! He still didn't seem comfortable with it! [At least Kitty seems to agree with her that it could work! Maybe the other woman could talk Han into letting her do it.]

Comfortable's a lot to ask. He's worried about all of us and it's a risk. Those are usually easier when you're the only one taking it. [It doesn't mean it shouldn't be taken though.]

So if I cut my hair and changed my outfit, you think he'd let me go?

I still think a mask would be better, and if you were going to do something to the hair I'd just style it differently and maybe dye it. There aren't a lot of options left after you shave it if you need to change things up again. But, yeah, sure, why not? At least on a world with no known heavy first order presence.

A mask? You mean like a stormtrooper?

[She has actually known people who wear masks who aren't stormtroopers, but the soldiers of the First Order have been on her mind a lot lately. (Gee, I wonder why.) She's not sure how much she likes that particular idea, though if it gets her some time planetside...]

Not specifically those. [Though if they got their hands on some uniforms that could be a way to go. They'd have to handle what they want differently and impersonating troopers might get back to someone, so they'd have to play it right.]

It just seemed like some people were using various masks for, I don't know, fashion? Utility? [Maybe some aliens just have mask-looking heads, but she was sure at least some were removable without being stormtroopers. She'd point out the one Rey was wearing at the beginning of the movie if she were Deadpool and could do things like that.]

[Rey doesn't consider that a mask; that's a head wrap to protect against sand. Big difference!

But no, now that Kitty is explaining it a little more, Rey is all into it.]

That could definitely work!

[Maybe not the best term, but she comes from a superhero background. What can you do? Not that she ever bothered to really disguise her identity or even fully understood while others did. It's not like they had some second life to protect the way Peter Parker had explained his devotion to protecting the duality.]

Yeah, and then less stir crazy on the ship. I had some of my own thoughts about that. I want to make some workout equipment. Things I remember from home. [That probably have counterparts here, but why abandon everything she learned and knew? She can repurpose parts. She spent years in a wasteland fixing and modifying and building whatever they needed. Doing it on this galaxy's most beloved ship can't be harder. And it's long past time to get over the mental obstacle of feeling out of place and behind on everything. It's not like everyone else knows every world, language, and custom in this galaxy either.]

Workout equipment? [Rey's heard of a lot of things, but she's never heard of that.]

Yeah. It's not a tiny ship, but it's small enough I feel like I'm not doing anything most days even if I'm busy all day. If I can't have action I at least need a little activity. Something to run in place on.

[Rey doesn't really see the point of running in place when you could just run around the halls, but okay.] That shouldn't be too hard to put together. What kind of parts do you need?

Belts, motor, sensors, circuitry, wheels, some basic metal or sturdy, but flexible polymers for the framework. I might also do something with hover tech to replace some of that. Should be quieter that way too.

[Her world was a mix of damaged and dilapidated tech and polished high tech coming from the evil geniuses employed by Apocalypse. Plenty of it was also "borrowed" from alien cultures. The X-Men had "liberated" quite a bit of it, so she had a diverse and skewed background even before Marina where she learned some of their native tech and learned from others like Chekov.]

I think we've got about half of that lying about somewhere. I used the last of our spare sensors on my project, though. Sorry.

Don't worry about it. Sensors are more for the perks. I could make it functional without them. And I still need the rest we don't have anyway.

[Congratulations on finding the one subject Rey is genuinely excited to talk about.]

Droid. It's an AA unit — the line just before the BB series, which BB-8 was. She was completely totaled on Takodana. The Resistance mechanic let me take her because he was just going to use her for scrap. But I've checked her core and it should still work. If I can get the right parts, I should be able to bring her back to life.

What does it do? Or what will it do if you get it going?

All kinds of repairs, hyperspace calculations, course-plotting ... A lot of starfighters use astromechs as co-pilots. [Which is the real reason she wanted one, though she's not going to tell Kitty that considering the woman's reaction to their last conversation on the topic of Rey leaving.]

I can't be sure until I boot her up again, but I suspect she's quite a warrior. She's been with the Resistance for over a decade. [With a droid so old, actual replacement parts were extremely difficult to come by, which is why the mechanic had reluctantly decided to scrap her before Rey came along.]

So, basically putting us out of jobs, huh? [Literally checking every box if she means warrior literally. But she's not threatened or jealous this time at least? She sounds amused.] I'll have to figure out how I'm spending all my free time. [As if she doesn't spend it all with Ben.]
