He tilts his head. "I did mean the rocks, but you could shoot at me."

"I'm not going to shoot at you." Why does she even say things?

"No, try it. Just once." She should know better than to say words by now, honestly. "You won't hurt me."

"No. You're not the one I'm worried about hurting." She doesn't want to fire on someone she cares about. Not to mention they aren't far from Han.

He's disappointed. Redirecting and stopping blaster bolts is one of his more visually-impressive powers, and it's not something that many force-users ever mastered.

Throwing rocks is fine, too.

"Tell me when you'd like to begin."

Hey, no one is telling him not to show off. It doesn't have to be aimed at him to stop it, right? But she's relieved he's dropped it. There's a nod of gratitude.

"Now is good."

But it's so much cooler when it's aimed at him!

He nods, lifts a medium-sized rock into the air, and sends it flying away. She'll need to stay sharp; he'll throw in some erratic movements to keep the game exciting.

She wasn't sure what to expect. After he was pro-shooting him, she thought he might just swarm her with rocks headed toward her. Which wouldn't be a bad tactic really, but this is a better place to start.

She fires of a shot that would have connected if it hadn't jagged. She squeezes off a couple of rapid shots a few degrees apart. She usually likes to use fewer shots and just make them count, but she can cover more territory this way if the path doesn't stay set.

They're just warming up and, believe it or not, he doesn't really want to throw a bunch of rocks at her.

The rock explodes. He sends up two more to take its place, one veering left and the other going right.

It hadn't really occurred to her, but she'd be glad to know he feels the same way.

Her shot follows the one heading right first on instinct. That's the direction the others are in. It's not that she thinks they're in danger. Just her fastest priority when a decision had to be made. She does another quick sequence and then quickly turns left to get it back in her sights. It's further now. The first blast just nicks it and throws it off course so it takes another two shots to bring it down.

"You're good," he admits, and this time it actually sounds like a compliment.

It's time for four targets at once! They fly off in roughly the same direction, but their speeds and courses vary. He's showing off a little now. It takes concentration to move multiple objects quickly and independently.

"Thanks. Of course, I'll let that go straight to my head."

She actually thought it was kind of sloppy she needed so many shots. Then again the fire fights she has seen have been largely people firing as much as they can with little precision. Hitting things by sheer volume of blasts. Her style is...not like that. Probably because she's more used to bullets, but the recoil will tire her out after awhile too, so it's best to minimize it.

She goes for the fastest ones first so they don't get out of range. Of course, she doesn't really know what the blaster's full range is or what Ben's is for that matter. No time to learn like the present.

Kitty has obviously never seen stormtroopers trying to shoot things. Those guys can fire round after round without hitting a damn thing. Her method looks elegant by comparison, so yes, the compliment is warranted.

He's not sure what his range is, either, since distance isn't something a person has to go for when throwing things and people around on starships. It does exceed blaster range, so he brings the two rocks that get away flying back towards them.

Well, she didn't get them when she needed to, but she is stopping them before they get back. The first one explodes immediately. The second was too big for a single shot. Part of it broke off, but it took another three shots before it was so much dust.

"This is a lot better than stationary rocks. I could throw some up in the air for you to hit? Not really the same."

"Congratulations. You won." He says it exactly as dryly as someone congratulating someone on defeating rocks would be expected to.

"It would still be better." The blaster comes up. If he holds it like someone who doesn't really want to be holding a blaster and only knows how to use it well enough to not embarrass himself, that's because it's true.

She laughs lightly at his delivery. "Thanks. I'll forego my acceptance speech." She reaches down to pick up a decently sized rock. It's not going to go nearly as high, but it's a bigger target at least. And since he'll have less time she prompts him. "Okay!" And then throws.

His first shot misses spectacularly and he narrowly misses hitting himself in the face with the blaster. (Stupid recoil.) The second shot looks like it's going to be just as off as the first, but it changes course and hits the rock dead-center. Did he win?

You are getting the most suspicious look ever. "Ben."

He lowers the weapon. "I hit it."

"I saw that and in battle you've got to use every resource you have to get the job done. But this is training, and it's not force training. Let's go back to the stationary target for now. You just need to get used to the recoil and learn how to rock with it instead of letting it work against you."

He sulks, but doesn't protest or destroy anything. They are making progress in leaps and bounds.

He holds the blaster back up and looks to her for guidance. "What do you mean, 'rock with it'?"

She'll take that as a win. She's also happy when he asks her for advice. "What usually happens is that you feel the gun coming back toward you and you overcompensate, pushing forward as it pushes back. Since you're working against it, you'll get thrown off balance and the control can go a little wild. And if you anticipate it you can end up throwing your shot off in the process. You have to just let the recoil happen and rock back with it. You need to be relaxed instead of tensed so you can absorb it. That way it will feel more like a push than a hard shove."

He nods and, eager to put this new information to use, takes aim at a boulder and fires. The shot still misses, but he's in no danger of whacking himself with his own gun, so that's a victory.

"How long does it take to become good at this?" Someone's annoyed by the lack of instant mastery.

"It varies, but more than a couple of shots. That was already better though." She steps in closer. "Try holding it more like this." She reaches up, gently guiding his arm into a new position.

He lets her correct his hold, but her closeness distracts him from taking another shot. He looks down at her. "Do you still think that it was a mistake?"
